Classwork Assignment

In this assignment we were told to work in groups and draw pictures for certain words. It was an interesting idea because we had such a broad range to choose from. We had to draw something for the following words (at least these are what i think the words were):

1. Dream
2. Hallucinate (we had a bottle of Absinthe, with a green fairy on top)
3. Hypnogogic
4. Memory
5. Imaginary
6. After (we had a picture of Chernobyl)

It was interesting to hear the ideas our group came up with. I am a literal person so for certain things I wanted to go in a more literal way but my group vetoed that thinking my ideas were a little too out there. I did enjoy the things we came up with though. Our memory picture was actually the first memory we all shared, when we were waiting outside the classroom on the first day of class, waiting for the teacher to come. Our dream picture we took a horror aspect to it, a little bid Freddy Krueger, a little bit just normal nightmare. I wanted to do this weird dream about the Wizard of Oz, but Jose didn't want to draw that (because he had just drawn a Unicorn for our Imaginary picture and didn't want to come off as gay).

What I learned from this project was that you can draw ideas from anywhere it's just how everything see's things. And also, that I had a really fun group to work with.

Historical Reference

For my historical perspective, I chose to use Edvard Munch's The Scream. This Oil painting was created in 1893, and is said the depict the "modern man taken by an attack of existential angst" so he is screaming to deal with it all.
